Show 126 – You Guys Doing Covers or Originals?

It’s just the boys this week as they wrap up reviews of the Mastodon/COC show, The Do For It Halloween Show, and Dustin’s trip to see Puscifer. They also preview the up coming Fort Worth Rock Assembly 4 happening this weekend at Lola’s. The boys also question how people want to be perceived at work, the battle between Anonymous and the KKK, and is it safe to enter the Blue Bell waters again?

Show 125 – NR/CD Inject Some TD

IMG_1701

This week our good friends Nick Russo and Casey Dennington paid us a visit to introduce us to their unique brand of rock and roll… Played on acoustics… That sounds a lot like Tenacious D. Yes NR/CD is a tribute to the greatest band to ever have a tribute band ever, Tenacious D. The boys are getting geared up for this weekend and the Do For It Records Halloween Party taking place on Friday at Curtain Club in Dallas and Saturday at Caves Lounge in Arlington. It’s going to be two nights of ridiculous badassness. Yes, badassness. A quick word to the wise, do not upgrade to OSX El Capitan if you have studio hardware that hasn’t been upgraded to it yet.

Do For It Records Halloween Parties are this weekend, be there or your stupid!

Show 124 – The Do For It Invasion

FullSizeRender 3

Kinda like the British Invasion, but just a lot more local. Yep, Do For It came in and took over the Temple. Jessie Frye, Andrew O’Hearn, David O’Hearn, and James Jennings joined the boys this week to talk about everything going on in the Do For It world, including their annual Halloween party coming up on the 30th and 31st. Every year the DFI roster of bands play dress up and cover, err, completely take over the essence of some of their favorite bands. This year the festivities take place at The Curtain Club in Dallas on the 30th and Caves Lounge in Arlington on the 31st. Bands being emulated include: PINK FLOYD (DARK SIDE OF THE MOON), AC/DC, JANE’S ADDICTION, DETHKLOK, TENACIOUS D, WHITE ZOMBIE, DEFTONES, and INCUBUS.

Also of importance is that our friend Jessie Frye has a great big show on the 29th at House of Blues to celebrate the release of her new album Boys Club! Joining her will be the badass Son of Stan and Buffalo Black. Go there and see this because we said so!

Also on this show were musings about Matt’s 40th Birthday, Lollaspalooza – Wreck Room Revival, NFLFU, and #fearboner, #murderboner, #petersteeleboner, #forceboner

Show 123 – Two Tonys and a Peter

12091230_10153635417671678_3458627950049324239_o

The boys were visited by some local greatness this week, Tony Diaz, Peter Thomas, and Tony Edwards. If you have ever done anything in the Fort Worth Music scene, there’s a good chance that Tony Diaz was a part of it some how. And one of the biggest shows of the year, Lolaspalooza VI – Wreck Room Wrevival has his name along with Panther City Exchange written all over it. One of the highlights of Lolaspalooza VI is a band playing Saturday night by the name of Slow Roosevelt, which happens to be fronted by Peter Thomas. If you know anything about Fort Worth music, then you know that Slow Roosevelt was a huge influential band that had some legendary shows that are still talked about to this day. Matt and Dustin get to pick Peters brain about the band, some of these shows, and just what the hell is going on in the world of Slow Roosevelt these days. We can almost promise that Saturday night will be another Slow Roosevelt show that people will be talking about for years. And then there is Tony Edwards, the right hand man at the now defunct One Ton Records. One Ton was THE go to label in North Texas that had an endless roster of amazing bands. This weekend Lola’s will be the place to be to see and hear some of the sounds that made the Fort Worth music, no, the North Texas music scene what it is today. Like Dustin said on the show, “If you’re not there then you’re stupid.”

Towards the end of the show the boys have a good conversation with Peter about mental health and it’s effects and tolls on the scene. 45 Fund is a Deep Ellum Association that promotes mental health awareness for Artists and Musicians.  Founded in 2011, 45 Fund was inspired by the suicides of Frankie Campagna and Adam Carter, both from the Dallas based band Spector 45. We ask that if you listen to anything at all out of this episode, please listen to the last 30 minutes.

Show 122 – The TXB Experiment

IMG_1180

So we’ve acquired some new gadgets and gizmos and decided to test out a remote show with said gadgets and gizmos at Texas Billiards in sunny Watauga. It was a last minute (seriously a couple of hours before show time) decision and a good experiment on our part. If you have any comments or feedback about this show shoot us an email or call our voice mail line at 682-593-5586. We start things off ragging on Watauga and the number of methlabs that are located in city limits, Dustin talks about the Raven Charter Show on Friday night, Matt went to the state fair, sports chaos happened on Sunday, The boys contemplate their annual song, there’s NFLFU, and two new segments; Toby Keith fun facts and Is She A Freak or a Fish? The boys also go over the Dallas Observer’s Local Music Bucket List.
