Show 272 – A Really Horrific Tuesday

This week the boys are trying to beat the heat by hanging around Texas Billiards with the horror punk band The Horrifics. After a bit of heat talk and a badass Neurosis and Converge show, the conversation turns to the Horrifics latest release Spirtbox and their entire DIY process. Central Track released a list of the 100 Best Texas Musicians that gets scanned over and bitched about, and we hopefully play the funeral march for the Police Lip Sync challenge.

Show 270 – The Funkytown Massacres the FWWMA 2018 part 2

After a little bit of an audio nightmare, here it is, part two of the Funkytown/JJTM epic crossover coverage of the Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards. If you haven’t heard part one yet, you can go over to the Funkytown podcast and give it a listen. It includes some red carpet coverage and the first hour plus of the awards ceremony. In this episode, part two, the Bud Light and Whiskey really get flowing as multiple guests stop by the podcast table to hop on and share their thoughts and opinions on the evening. Some of the audio is a little wanky, especially when you have uncertified engineers (ahem, Matt Stubbs) trying to commandeer the gear. Like in the previous years, the Fort Worth Weekly always delivers a fun awards ceremony that is talked about for weeks on end, and this year’s ceremony wasn’t any different. Show 269 – Red, White, and A Mountain of Smoke

It’s 4th of July eve as the gentlemen from Mountain of Smoke make a visit to the Temple to talk about their new release Gods of Biomechanics. It’s been a little while since Brooks and PJ have been by we spend quite a bit of time catching up on what they’ve been up to, the addition of Alex to the band, and recording with Michael Briggs up at Civil Audio. In true Mountain of Smoke fashion, Gods of Biomechanics is a brilliant 10 track punishing assault through the Blade Runner landscape. The new addition of Alex playing pedal steel on the tracks brings a sense of balance to PJ’s thundering rhythm and Brook’s low end. It’s our feel-good album of the summer!

So buckle up, this is the longest episode that we’ve done to date and it’s one of our favorites.

Album release parties begin this weekend, July 7th at the Lost Well in Austin, July 14th at the Double Wide in Dallas, July 19th at Dan’s Silver Leaf in Denton, and July 26th at the Ridglea Room in Fort Worth.

The opening track is Orion’s Shoulder, closing track is Tyrell.

Show 268 – This Week on Survivor, Mexico

The boys are back in the Temple doing the thing they do and catching up on a lot of the BS that happened while they were gone. Vinnie Paul and Anthony Bourdain passed away and there’s talk of their lives and careers. The border has erupted in chaos. Tom Arnold is nuts and a cokehead. There already is a Space Force. The Fort Worth Weekly held their annual Music Awards Showcase down on the Southside. We’ve all seen Solo finally, and most importantly, we are all dug into the World Cup. Dante and Jason stopped by to express their opinions on everything and to set Matt straight.
