Show 154 – Robby Rux Enters The Temple

Robby

We aren’t going to lie, the boys were quite distracted this week as Robby Rux joined them in the Temple of Eye. The Dallas Stars decided to schedule game 3 against the St Louis Blues on a Tuesday night, when quite clearly they shouldn’t have. We would like to believe that the players were to distracted by missing this weeks JJTM live that it effected their play on the ice. But the show went on, and Robby was an interesting and cool cat. Robby and his wife Jennifer started Dreamy Soundz up around 2008 in their home in the Fairmount District. Today it has become Dreamy Life Records, that includes a record store and Cloudland recording studio. The boys discuss what motivated Robby to create a studio and record label, what he looks for in bands that approach him, and what the future holds for the Dreamy Life empire. They also break down Ted Cruz and if he is the Zodiac Killer and if his dad really killed JFK. There are two new festivals on the horizon and one of them are in our backyard, and what are the 100 best music venues in America? And of course Radiohead takes over the internet.

Show 153 – Does Emotional Music Have Quite An Effect On You?

IMG_3433

It’s Tornado Tuesday in the Temple as Jeffery Lord from Funkytown Podcast and Matt Thomas from Robotuner’s Insignificant Podcast join the boys in the Temple to commit to the bit: Does Emotional Music Have Quite and Effect On You. But kicking off the show is a huge announcement as the next Jerry Jonestown Massacre Presents Show is announced and it will be on July 29th at Lola’s featuring The Phantom Sensation, Convoy and the Cattlemen, Mean Motor Scooter, and Joe Savage. It’s going to be an amazing night with a bunch of fun bands and fun music. Next up was a little Prince talk since he passed in the time between our last show. Then we touch on a crazy story involving a friend of ours Rustin Luther and the battle he now faces. More in depth information about his tumor and what he’s going through can be found at this Dallas Observer article, it’s worded way better then the boys could have said. Rustin is a good dude and if you have it in your heart to help him with his medical cost go here and contribute  (https://www.gofundme.com/7pzj62rm) Then Matt Thomas brought us a secret surprise song! Finally the entire cast get’s into emotional music and the role it has played on their lives. It’s a heavy music conversation.

Thank you to Matt and Jeff for making it over and being a part of this. Check out the Funkytown Podcast here and Robotuner’s Insignificant Podcast here.

Show 152 – We Go Long With The Foo

IMG_3398

This one goes a little long, but it’s worth it. The boys are joined this week by 3 out of 4 members of The Foo, North Texas premiere Foo Fighters tribute band to discuss all things not Foo Fighters related. They kick things off with some Dazed and Confused talk before dissecting The Foo and figuring out why Sosa didn’t make it in for this show. They then break off into Record Store Day talk and the scene down in Austin. Instead of playing a song at the mid break this week, the boys play an interview they did with Jessie Fry, Chris, and Justin from Noble Rye Brewing about the new Jessie Frye themed beer, Boss Bitch. This might be the most shocking and over the top break down of a beer ever. We might have to label it with a disclosure. This then leads everyone into vagina beer talk, sprinkled in with some Koby Bryant, Pearl Jam, and Whole Foods talk. then then try out a new game on the show, that is met with a good response and then the boys dive into the deep dark hole that is political talk, and like normal, things get a little messy.

Check out The Foo at Lola’s on April 29th withCaliche Burnout and The Dangits!

Show 151 – Caliche Burnout Gets Us Drunk

IMG_3327

When Caliche Burnout sends out word that they are bringing really good whiskey and a bunch of beer you know it’s going to be a good night. About midway through this episode the effects of said whiskey and beer starts to show it’s effects as things get really out of control. The boys talk with Caliche Burnout about what they have cooking in their camp, what really is the proper soil to use in this region for growing good tone, Nascar and the Robertsons, Skynyrd, and Guns n’ Roses. They also try and start the JJTMWWF by trying to set up a fight between Caliche Burnout and The Dangits, or Mean Motor Scooter, or The Me-Thinks, but that pretty much fails. Plans are also discussed for expanding the Temple of Eye, and finally Mariah Carry fills us all with emotion. This is an episode designed for those with ADD.

Check out Caliche Burnout at Lola’s on April 29th with The Foo and The Dangits! Or check them out on their Facebook page here.

Show 150 – Joe Savage & Mark Weger

IMG_3286

We made it. Some said we were doomed from the start, others have said we are trash and belonged in the sewer, and yet there are a few others that have wished death upon us. Through stab wounds, bar fights, boobies, and a mountain of beer and whiskey, we finally made it to Show 150. And what better way to celebrate this show then with the greatness that is Joe Savage and his faithful sidekick, and excellent bass player, Mark Weger. Both of these boys have just wrapped up their time in the studio finishing up the new Joe Savage album Sauvignon Rye, and were excited to come in and share a brand new hot off the press track entitled Alpine. Leading the show off is the track Don’t Let Your Guns Slip and closing is Drinkin’ both of which have been available for a little while via Joe Savages’ Soundcloud. We talk with Joe and Mark about the new album, the recording process, and about Joe’s interesting life roaming this planet of ours. We get into some intellectual writing and Joe’s blog and the fascinating stories on it . We also touch on the untimely death of Merle Haggard and his influence on Joe and Mark. We also continue the tradition of blindly calling people on our landmark shows, and as always it leads to confusion and insanity. In all it was a good night of talking music and drinking whiskey with two great guys that make some badass tunes.

Check out Joe Savage on Soundcloud and Facebook as well as his writing on his blog.

And be on the look out for his new album Sauvignon Rye coming out next month!
